Mixed Gas is a blend of CO2 and Nitrogen. These gases are used to dispense beer, lager, and cider. The blend of gas depends on the product being dispensed:
30/70, or 70/30 as it is sometimes known, is used for the dispense of “smooth” products such as beers and stouts. The high nitrogen content gives the product a smooth texture.
Each mixed gas cylinder will have a green sticker label outside of the valve guard / handle denoting 30/70 and will have a green cap inside the valve. The cylinder itself will be grey with a green shoulder and ‘Albion Gas’ along the body. Green has been used for easy product recognition in the cellar, 30/70 will run any product with a green pipe going to the keg. Green Label to Green Pipe.
60/40 is usually used to dispense lagers and ciders. The higher CO2 Content gives the product its “Fizz”.
Each cylinder will have a white sticker label outside of the valve guard / handle denoting 60/40 and will have a white cap inside the valve. The cylinder itself will be grey with a green shoulder and ‘Albion Gas’ along the body.
White, in the same way that green is used for 30/70 has been used for easy product recognition in the cellar. 60/40 will run any product in the cellar with a white pipe going to the keg. White Label to White Pipe.
A Mixed Gas valve is a female fitting and can easily be confused with other mixed gas cylinders. Always ensure you’re connecting the correct cylinder with the correct product line.
